Wired Mics

EX-503 Lavalier Microphone
Azden EX-503 Lavalier Microphone

Simple omni-directional lavalier microphone – will work with a Kodak zi8 and other cameras with a mini-pin connection. Even at this ridiculously low price you will get better audio from an on-camera person in most situations than when using the camera’s built-in mic. Get one of these and keep it in your camera bag at all times – “just in case” you need it.

Audio-Technica ATR-3350 Lavalier Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone

Great for Video Use

Here’s another inexpensive option: a newscaster-style miniature mic is perfect for general video use, or any other recording application where minimum visibility and a low profile are desired.

Omni Polar Pattern

The lavalier features an Omni pickup pattern, for full, 360-degree coverage. Clip it on and go, without worrying to much about where it’s pointing. This makes it an ideal choice for aerobics/dance/sports instructors. Since it does have an omni-directional pickup pattern, you could place this mic in situations where you want to either capture ambient sound of the voices of several people in close proximity.

Works With Most Cameras

An integrated 6-meter (20-foot) cable with 3.5 mm mini-plug connects directly to most cameras. Also includes a phono plug adapter which would allow it to be plugged into many audio mixers.

Retail Price: $21.49

Sony ECM 44b Lavalier Microphone – Our Recommendation

This is our lavalier mic of choice. We have several of these and they have never let us down. We’ve used ours for over 10 years; this mic will probably never be out of style. You’ll often see this in use on professional level video shoots. Requires an AA battery and connects to professional 3-pin XLR cables.
