The Internet’s Dumbest How-To Videos

We’ve been really busy this week working on a proposal for a new client who wants to do a viral web video campaign. They want something edgy and funny…it’s a product that lends itself perfectly to that. We’ve been brainstorming like crazy.

In our research to see what’s working and what’s not with viral videos, we’ve looked at more videos this week on the internet than we have in years. Today, I tripped across this funny little clip about the business of How To videos I thought you’d enjoy.

We agree with the producers of Current TV that , “There’s so much to learn from the Internet that it can seem daunting at times.” But lucky for us, there are experts out there that will literally hold our hands every single step of the way. The viral video expert, Brett Erlich takes a look in this informative piece.

Viral Video Film School is a recurring segment on the weekly television show infoMania. In each episode of VVFS, Professor Brett Erlich teaches you valuable skills in the discipline of Viral Video making. So sit down, take notes, and try not to piss him off.

infoMania is a half-hour satirical news show that airs on Current TV. The show puts a comedic spin on the 24-hour chaos and information overload brought about by the constant bombardment of the media. Hosted by Conor Knighton and co-starring Brett Erlich, Sarah Haskins, Ben Hoffman, and Sergio Cilli, the show airs on Thursdays at 10 pm Eastern and Pacific Times and can be found online at current.com/infomania. And make sure to check out their facebook profile for special features at http://infomaniafacebook.com.

Note: One cool thing about this site; you also can post your videos on their community.

We’ve pondered the question of whether and how the proliferation of free how to videos would impact the market for selling your special interest videos and will address this topic again in future posts. With fare such as this out there, we feel that people will still pay for good, in-depth knowledge. Don’t you?
